| How to use the Extra Players in Flair |
In addition to the players available through the "Add players and preloader" option and the Players window in the Export Settings window, there is another option available in Flair to add an additional player type to SWF and FLV files. These “Extra” players include additional features that are not available in Flair’s other players.
These features include (not all features are on all players):
- play controls that only appear when you mouse over the bottom portion of the swf or flv
- time played and time remaining display
- option to play full screen
You can access the extra players through the file menu. |
Import Extra Player: Selecting this will allow you to select one of the extra players that are available.
Once you select the player you wish, the player will be added to the stage and the timeline and a new window will open that allows you to select either a SWF file or an FLV file to add the player to.
You can then browse to the FLV or SWF file you wish to add the player to (depending on the player type).
You can also access this option once a player has been added to the project by right-clicking on the player and selecting "edit object"

Depending on the player there may be additional options available for customizing its appearance and functionality. If additional options are available, when you add the FLV or SWF a dialogue box will appear that provides the customization options.

When you click on a "Parameter" in the Customize Player window, you will be able to read a description of that parameter in the field below and there will be an option to change the parameter.
- Custom Text: This allows you to change the preloader text built into the player. In this case, this player has an adaptive preloader built in. So here you can change the text that displays while the preloader is preloading the flv/swf.
- Buffer Factor: This is the buffer factor of the adapative preloader. To turn the preloader off, set the buffer factor to 0. (For more on how the adaptive preloader works go here.)
- Stop at Start: This allows you to have the flv/swf stop at start and requires the viewer to click play to get it to start playing.
- Scale to Fit: This causes the flv/swf that is loaded to scale to fit the player.
- Maintain Aspect Ratio: If the scale to fit option is true then this option forces the loaded flv/swf to maintain the aspect ratio (ratio of width over height).
- Tint Color: This allows you to provide a tint color to your player.
- Background Color: This allows you to provide a background color behind the flv/swf.
- Controller Always Visible: This allows you to set the play controls to be either permanently visible or only visible when a viewer mouses over the bottom of the flv/swf.
Important notes:
- It is important to remember that the extra players always load a selected SWF file the player and the SWF will be 2 separate files and you will need both when you publish your output. This has always been the case with FLV files and remains so using the extra players.
- Please note that these players are specific for SWF and FLV files (so you must choose a SWF player for a SWF file and an FLV player for an FLV file).
